Combining technology with translational science to deliver cutting-edge patient care

At Stanford, we are positioned to deliver the best possible care to children and adults using minimally invasive image-guided approaches to enable both Precision Sampling as well as Precision Delivery. Specifically, at LPCH we have state-of-the-art interventional facilities unlike any other place in the world which helps us to bring innovation directly to children so they can receive the best possible treatment. The interventional radiology team at LPCH has a progressive and pioneering culture where advanced technologies are combined with innovative approaches for both routine patient care as well as new clinical trials.

HIGHLIGHTS

Clinical Trials Dr Thakor is leading multiple efforts to bring the latest innovative approaches and technologies to the patient’s bedside.  As such, he is actively involved in multiple clinical trials; some of these efforts have resulted in patients already being treated (i.e. high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) of bone tumors) while others (i.e. islet transplantation for children and adults, local delivery of medication into the bowel of children with IBD or GvHD) are being submitted for approval and subsequent patient recruitment. His vision is to bring the promise of MSCs and MSC-EVs, which are showing considerable promise in the laboratory, to children and adults by being able to locally deliver these therapies in different diseases including diabetes, kidney injury, liver injury and organ rejection.
